Epic Games CEO Addresses Claims Of Banning NFTs & Blockchain Technology

Following a restriction of NFTs and blockchain technology usage inside the Minecraft game, certain users are worried about whether other gaming companies may follow suit, while others want the same. In a Minecraft blog, developer Mojang Studios stated that they were not planning to incorporate NFTs into the game’s general development. In fact, the updated usage guidelines said that NFTs “conflict” with their rules and diminish the Minecraft essence.

However, Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, seemed to be sturdy in his stance as he reinstated the assurance to its users in a tweet response.

A Twitter user tweeted Epic Games asking the gaming platform to follow Minecraft and ban all the NFT games. Tim Sweeney responded to the user, but not in favor of his request.

Epic Games CEO said that developers should have the freedom to build their games

“Developers should be free to decide how to build their games, and you are free to decide whether to play them.” “I believe stores and operating system makers shouldn’t interfere by forcing their views onto others. We definitely won’t.”

The user had more to say as he replied to Tim Sweeney’s response. The Twitter user stated that “it’s one thing when it’s just a game and it’s another when the game is built on environmental impacts and scams that are supported by Epic Games.”

NFT integration inside games usually works as collectibles, profile pictures, artwork, and other unique items that users can use in-game and also trade outside of the game. Epic Games is the creator behind the record-breaking Fortnite game. As per the data from Gamesradar, Fortnite’s user count hovers around 83 million.

Epic Games has not integrated crypto or other blockchain technology into its games. However, the platform has been open for developers to launch their own NFT-based games on its marketplace.
